imX fills seats for first digital feature

Halifax’s imX communications has officially started production on its ambitious series of five digital feature films known as Seats 3a and 3c. Production began at the end of April on the first of the five, Dragonwheel, which producer Dean Perlmutter says should be wrapped by the end of May.
The premise of the series is the relationships born of a chance meeting of two people on an airplane. In Dragonwheel, Gloria, the manager of a boy band, is seated next to Sherman, a soon-to-be-married custodian and supposedly the band’s biggest fan. A relationship develops between the two in the air and on the ground as they travel to Mexico, Barcelona and Tokyo. What unfolds between credits, as with each of the films, changes the lives of both principal characters.

Morty gets mouthy at Rainmaker

Vancouver effects shop Rainmaker Digital Pictures has had a recent string of post successes with an ongoing campaign for Manitoba-based telecommunications company MTS. The shop has elicited many a grin in the birthplace of the Guess Who with its contributions to the campaign – about 20 spots to date and counting.
The ads feature Morty, the talking bison, who, to the surprise of Rainmaker producer Terry Hutcheson, has become somewhat of a cultural icon in the province.

Siberry sparks Big love at first sight

Toronto commercial director Jeff Siberry has left Trailer Park Films in favor of the Big Film Company. The attraction between Siberry and his new spot shop was mutual and undeniable. According to Big executive producer Angie Colgoni, once Siberry walked into the Big offices, he wasn’t going to get away.
‘He came in a couple of times and we didn’t want to let him go,’ says Colgoni. ‘We had a couple more meetings with him and there was something about him – we couldn’t let him walk away from the company.’
