TVA Films has taken the Canadian rights to a feature doc that will follow comic Bill Maher (Politically Incorrect) and director Larry Charles (Borat) to the Middle East, where they will talk to the locals about religion. The Montreal distributor announced the acquisition on Wednesday, following talks that got underway during this spring’s Cannes film festival.

A short preview of the still-untitled comedy was screened during Cannes, leading to talks between TVA president Yves Dion, the filmmakers, and their reps at Creative Artists Agency, according to TVA.

The doc, to be carried in the U.S. by Lionsgate, is due in theaters next spring.
