Tattersall merges with SIM Group

The Toronto-based audio post service provider merges with the fast-growing equipment and post-production services provider.

tattersall02The audio post landscape in Toronto shifted today with news that Tattersall Sound and Picture is merging with Toronto-headquartered equipment and post provider SIM Group.

Tattersall provides sound editorial, ADR and mixing services to primarily Canadian film and TV productions, although its reach includes U.S. series such as Showtime’s Penny Dreadful. SIM Group operates offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax, as well as the U.S. and China.

The merger sees SIM extend its operations into sound post production and, it says, “advances its goal of providing productions with end-to-end services from the camera to the screen.”

Tattersall will continue to operate independently and retain its name, its location and all staff. Under the new structure, it will also work with SIM’s post-production division, which now includes Bling Digital, Chainsaw and Pixel Underground. Additional SIM companies include SIM Digital and PS Production Services.

The merger arose out of synergies discovered through collaboration on recent projects, said Tattersall co-founder Lou Solakofski, as SIM until this week has not offered audio services to its clients. SIM, however, has been significantly building out its partnerships in the past year, adding Chainsaw and Pixel Underground to its corporate roster toward providing full-service production and post.

In a statement, company founder Jane Tattersall said the merger both provides stability for Tattersall’s client-based business, and expands its reach into new markets.

“Our alliance with SIM ensures a stable and long-term future for our business, which benefits our clients, our employees and the industry we serve,” she said. “It allows us to compete on par with the biggest players in sound.”

Recent Tattersall projects include Vikings, Reign and Saving Hope, as well as the upcoming Paul Gross project Hyena Road.
