Shad to replace Jian Ghomeshi as permanent Q host

The CBC has chosen a rapper to replace Jian Ghomeshi as the permanent host of its Q radio show.

Shad, also known as Shadrach Kabango, will relaunch the CBC’s morning radio show after winning a Juno for his hip hop recordings.

Shad, 32, was born in Kenya to Rwandan parents and settled with his family in London, Ontario after moving to Canada.

He pursued his music career while completing business and liberal arts degrees at the Wilfrid Laurier University and Simon Fraser University.

Shad replaces Ghomeshi, who is now facing sexual assault charges following a police investigation launched in late October soon after the former CBC radio personality was fired by the pubcaster.

The CBC featured a string of guest replacements on Q while it searched for a new host.
