TIFF gift valued at more than $22 million

Ivan Reitman and his sisters, together with The Daniel Corporation, have handed more than $22 million worth of land and management fees to the Toronto International Film Festival Group and its new home-to-be, Bell Lightbox, according to a recent assessment of the project.

The rough figure is based on the value of the land — on the busy Toronto intersection of King and John Streets — and fees connected to the development and construction of the building, and was announced on Thursday by TIFF organizers.

‘Quite simply, we would not have a new home on the horizon were it not for the generosity of these people,’ said TIFF boss Piers Handling in a statement.

The $22 million has already been included, however, in the previously announced $137 million the TIFF Group has raised so far.

The project has a $196-million funding target, and started construction in February, looking to open in late 2009. It is a joint venture among the TIFF Group, the Reitman family, and condo-makers The Daniels Corporation.
