The U.K. leads the list of nominations for the 35th International Emmy Awards, which were unveiled Monday from MIPCOM, and includes a nod for the National Film Board and Discovery Channel Canada in the documentary category.
The awards, which acknowledge outstanding programs produced outside the U.S., are comprised of nine categories representing 38 nominees. Over 16 countries are nom’d, including the U.K. with eight, Brazil with seven, Japan with four and South Africa with three nominations.
The NFB and Discovery are named for the science doc Dinosaurs vs. Mammals — Secrets of Mammalian Survival, which is a coproduction with Japan’s NHK, The Science Channel, France Télévisions Distribution and France 5.
The doc is up against Denmark’s Smiling in a War Zone, the U.K.’s Stephen Fry — The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, and the film In God’s Hands, which marks the first-ever nomination for Colombia and its private network RCN Televisión.
The awards will be handed out Nov. 19 in New York City.
