Universal Studios Home Entertainment Canada has, in one fell swoop, picked up DVD rights to five properties from Nelvana Enterprises. The seven-year deal revealed Thursday starts this fall, granting Universal licence to produce and market releases for Nelvana’s Jane and the Dragon, Grossology, Di-Gata Defenders, Ruby Gloom and a Franklin feature film.
All told, the deal encompasses more than 150 episodes and has the potential for a two-year extension. Initial product should start rolling out to Canadian retailers later this year.
‘This strategic arrangement will allow us to leverage [Universal’s] industry-leading marketing and distribution capabilities to ensure that our shows gain maximum retail and consumer exposure,’ said Nelvana exec Peter Maule, in a release.
