MONTREAL — After a six-year stint, Joëlle Levie is stepping down as director-general of film and television at SODEC, the principal funding body for feature films in Quebec.
‘Her reasons are purely personal,’ says SODEC spokeswoman Ann Champoux. ‘She’s not leaving because she’s not doing a good job or because we don’t like her. She’s very good and we like her a lot.’
Levie is credited with working to increase the amount of money available for feature films in Quebec, according to the Montreal film trade magazine Qui fait Quoi. Under her mandate, Quebec’s then-culture minister Line Beauchamp increased SODEC’s annual budget for feature films by $10 million.
Levie is moving to Paris after her mandate is officially over Jan. 1, says Qui fait Quoi. The agency has yet to begin searching for a replacement.
