Ishii Yuya’s The Vancouver Asahi (Japan/Canada) won the Rogers People’s Choice Award at the 2014 edition of the Vancouver International Film Festival, following its world premiere at the festival.

Other Canadian films that picked up audience awards following the 33rd edition of the festival included Jacob Tierney’s Preggoland, which won the VIFF Most Popular Canadian Feature Film Award, and Suzanne Crocker’s All the Time in the World, which won the VIFF Most Popular Canadian Documentary Award. The VIFF Most Popular International Documentary Award went to James Keach’s Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me (USA). Elsewhere, the Women in Film + Television Artistic Merit Award went to Ana Valine’s Sitting on the Edge of Marlene (Canada).

In other awards news, three Canadian productions were among the nominees for the 2014 International Emmy Awards, which were announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Monday. Jove Pictures’ The Exhibition was nominated in the arts programming category and Aetios Productions’ 30 Lives: Maxim Bouchard (30 Vies) received a nomination in the telenovela category. Claude Legault received a nomination in the best performance by an actor category for his work in Sphere Media Plus and Echo Media’s 19-2.
