The Vancouver International Film Festival has pacted with the rival South by Southwest Festival to focus on next-generation gaming.
Programmers from both events will combine on a panel at the upcoming Vancouver festival, Storify Your Game, where Assassin’s Creed writer Cory May at Ubisoft will discuss writing for video games in a fast-changing industry.
And VIFF executives will in turn have a presence at SXSW 2015.
As Vancouver unveiled its industry program on Wednesday, programmers also said Archer creator Adam Reed will head up a panel on theatrical comedies, All Kinds of Funny.
The VIFF industry conference, to run from Oct. 1 to 4, will include appearances by industry gatekeepers like John Morayniss, CEO of Entertainment One Television, and Nicole Clemens, SVP and head of series development at FX Networks.
The festival also plans a screenwriting panel that features Oscar-nominated Craig Borten (Dallas Buyers Club) and Snowpiercer scribe Kelly Masterson.
Other industry panelists include Sons of Anarchy head writer Chris Collins, Jack Amiel, co-creator of The Knick on HBO and Jay Duplass, co-writer and co-director of Jeff, Who Lives at Home.
