The Illegal Eater, We Were Children and AsapSCIENCE were among the Canadian productions to receive top honours at the 2014 Rockie Awards, announced on Monday at the Banff World Media Festival.

The Rockie Awards recognize digital and broadcast content from more than 40 countries. The nominees and winners are selected by over 250 independent film, television and media executives from around the world.

The Illegal Eater, produced by Farpoint Films in association with Middle Child Films, won the award in the lifestyle category in the best in entertainment competition, while Giant Ant’s To This Day picked up the top prize in the animation category. To This Day was produced in association with Shane Koyczan.

We Were Children, produced by Entertainment One, Eagle Vision and the National Film Board in association with APTN, won the prize in the history category in the best in unscripted competition.

Canadian projects swept the digital competition, taking home all four awards. CocoMilk Productions Convos with my 2-year-old won the web series fiction award. The series is produced in association with Warmland Films.

The webseries nonfiction prize went to AsapSCIENCE, while the CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries: Nightmare on Queen Street picked up the award for cross-platform fiction. The project was produced in association with Smokebomb Entertainment and Shaftesbury. Finally, Perfect Storms Interactive, produced by Secret Location in association with Shaw Media and eOne, won the award for cross-platform nonfiction.

Peg + Cat, from The Fred Rogers Company and 9 Story Entertainment, won the award in the pre-school category for the best in kids and youth competition.

Each of the winners will also compete for one of five best-of-genre prizes in the categories of scripted, unscripted, digital, kids and youth. Those awards will be presented on the afternoon of June 9 during the Alberta Film Rockie Awards Lunch.
