Daniel Roby’s historical biopic Louis Cyr: The Strongest Man in the World (Louis Cyr, l’homme le plus fort du monde), dominated the Jutra Awards on Sunday, taking home a total of nine trophies including the honours for best film.

Antoine Bertrand also picked up a best actor award for his performance in Louis Cyr, with Guillaume Cyr winning the best supporting actor trophy at the annual awards ceremony for Quebec film. Louis Cyr also won awards in the best art direction, best hairstyling, best costume, best makeup and best sound categories. In addition, Louis Cyr was awarded the Jutra Golden Ticket, given to the film that brings in the most at the box office.

Louise Archambault’s Gabrielle also had a strong night at the Jutras, bringing home five awards, including best director and best screenplay. Mélissa Desormeaux-Poulin won the award for best supporting actress for her role in the film. Gabrielle also received honours for best editing, and was deemed the most successful film outside of Quebec.

Elsewhere, Pierrette Robitaille won the best actress award for her performance in Vic + Flow Saw a Bear (Vic + Flo ont vu un ours). Romachandra Borcar won for best original score for Roche Papier Ciseaux (Rock Paper Scissors), and Marie-Geneviève Chabot’s En Attendant le Printemps (Waiting for Spring) won the Jutra for best documentary. Michel La Veaux also won the award for best cinematography for his work on Le démantèlement (The Dismantlement). 

The 16th edition of the Jutra awards were held at the Monument-National  in Montreal.
