A group of delinquent puppets now have a chance to charm American audiences with their brand of crude humour as their show is available for streaming on Hulu and Hulu Plus.
Created by John Pattison and produced by Duopoly, 26 episodes of the cult-hit Puppets Who Kill are now available on the U.S. subscription site in a three-year, revenue-sharing agreement. Puppets originally aired for four seasons on the Comedy Network from ’02 through ’06.
Duopoly president Catherine Tait, who pitched the series to Hulu, says the tone of the show will appeal to their sect of binge viewers who want more edgy comedies like Family Guy or South Park.
“I think the originality and wicked humour of this series is what nailed it for us,” says Tait.
The agreement is non-exclusive “so if another Canadian online service was interested they could absolutely pick it up,” she adds.
New York-based Duopoly has landed more than 300 episodes of Canadian comedy on Hulu — Pure Pwnage, Chilly Beach, and Papillon. To give a sense of their previous successes on this platform Tait says their show Odd Job Jack has had over three million views in just over a year on Hulu.
Duopoly has launched a social media campaign and is reaching out to the comedy tastemakers in the U.S. to help promote Puppets Who Kill.
