The CBC special Canada’s Next Great Prime Minister could walk away with International Emmy hardware next month, having garnered a nomination in the non-scripted entertainment category.
The announcement was made at a Monday press conference in Cannes by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences during MIPCOM.
The show, hosted by Rick Mercer, puts four ambitious young candidates in the hot seat to be grilled by a panel of former PMs including Paul Martin, John Turner and Kim Campbell. Installments have aired on Ceeb in 2007 and 2008.
Prime Minister is up against the controversial Dutch reality The Big Donor Show, whereby viewers vote which of three candidates should receive a kidney from a terminally ill woman. Also nominated in the category is Japan’s Doors and Argentina’s Caiga Quien Caiga.
The winners will be announced Nov. 24 in New York City. The U.K. leads with eight nominations, followed by five for Brazil.
