Canwest sweeps CAB awards

Canwest had a strong showing at the Gold Ribbon Awards, which handed three awards to Global and another to its cable channel HGTV at the Canadian Association of Broadcasters convention in Ottawa.

Global picked up a Gold Ribbon for entertainment for Are You Smarter Than a Canadian 5th Grader? and another, for fictional programming, for the homemade sitcom ‘da Kink in My Hair. Canadian 5th Grader also won an award for promotion.

An episode of Holmes on Homes (‘Lien on Me’) won in the pay/specialty category for HGTV.

The sweep of the TV programming categories is ‘a true testament to the strong efforts being put forth by our teams from across the country,’ said Kathy Dore, president of Canwest Broadcasting, in a statement on Tuesday. ‘To have these talents and efforts recognized by our industry peers is a real honour.’

Gold Ribbons for promotion also went to Rogers-owned Citytv Vancouver, Family Channel and CMT.
