Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE) has acquired CBC Gem short-form series Near or Far (pictured) for its distribution slate in the lead-up to MIPJunior and MIPCOM later this month.

The 8 x 12-minute teen drama is produced by Toronto’s Harlow Creative in association with Wattpad Webtoon Studios and premiered on CBC Gem on March 29.

Near or Far is created by Duana Taha and is based on the Wattpad story written by Emma Szalai. It follows fraternal twins who drift apart when their lives go on different paths. SSE is the sole distributor for the series.

SSE will also debut several of its original series at MIPCOM this year. Among the new titles is Media Stamped, which SSE co-produced with non-profit organization Global Citizen for Telus Independent.

Media Stamped is created and hosted by Nicole Stamp and aims to enhance media literacy for kids. The series will be featured in a showcase during MIPJunior, according to a news release.

Other SSE originals include the literacy-focused TVOKids and Knowledge Network series Wordsville; Dino Dex, the latest in the Dino franchise, produced for TVOKids, Knowledge Network, TFO and Amazon Kids+; and Odd Squad UK, the Canada/U.K. copro extending the Odd Squad franchise.

MIPJunior runs from Oct. 18 to 20 while MIPCOM runs from Oct. 21 to 24.
