CTV unveils Olympic team

Brian Williams will be the main face of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, where he will anchor the primetime coverage for CTV.

The joint CTV/Rogers Consortium revealed its broadcasting teams for the Games on Thursday, with Williams also tapped to host coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies alongside CTV newscaster Lloyd Robertson.

Williams — who joined CTV/TSN in 2006 after more than 30 years at CBC — is part of a 91-person English-language on-air team that also features CTV News reporter Lisa LaFlamme and TSN’s Michael Landsberg.

Sports veterans Darren Dutchyshen and Dave Randorf will handle hosting duties for TSN, while Olympic hosts on Rogers Sportsnet include Don Taylor, Martine Gaillard and Brad Fay.

Olympic medalists such as figure skaters Jamie Salé and David Pelletier, speed skater Catriona Le May Doan, and cross-country skier Beckie Scott will provide analysis.

‘The advantage of the Consortium is the diverse and broad scope of talent from various assets, giving us expertise and star power in all areas,’ said Consortium president Keith Pelley in a release

Meanwhile, CTV’s Olympic advertising campaign, called ‘Believe,’ got underway Monday with a series of 60-second commercials featuring the voice of Donald Sutherland and music by composer Howard Shore.

The Winter Games take place Feb 12-28, 2010.
