Keshet comes to Canada

On the heels of its recent expansion into Australia, Israeli producer-distributor Keshet International is establishing a Canadian office, to be headed by former Alliance Atlantis and Insight Sports exec Mark Rubinstein.

Keshet Canada, a joint venture between Keshet International and Rubinstein, will have the rights to over 50 Keshet International properties, with the aim to produce local versions under the Keshet Canada banner.

Highlights in Keshet International’s 60-plus catalog include Prisoners of War, from which the Showtime hit Homeland is based, the talent show Master Class and the unscripted dating format Girlfri3nds.

Rubinstein has held CEO, COO and GM roles with myriad media companies in Canada, including Alliance Atlantis, CHUM, and Insight Sports among others. Most recently, he has established television and digital media company RubyRun Ventures.

“Keshet’s swift international growth in recent years is a testament to the company’s ability to transcend international borders with its innovative scripted and unscripted programming,” said Rubinstein in a statement. “I am looking forward to utilizing our extensive network of industry contacts to bring the same level of success to the Canadian market with existing KI properties as well as new content we develop in-house.”

“After launching shops in the U.K. and Australia, it is only natural to add Canada to our production and creative network,” added Keshet International managing director Alon Shtruzman in his own statement. “We are thrilled to bring Keshet’s catalog to this exciting market that is home to an increasingly burgeoning entertainment industry. I have no doubt that with Mark’s vast experience we will soon become a prominent player in the Canadian TV landscape.”
