+ CBC’s Heartland has won the 2008 Actors’ Fund Canadian TV Charity Challenge, raising a total of $11,700 for The Actors’ Fund of Canada. The fund has provided millions in emergency aid for over 10,000 entertainment industry workers since it was founded in 1958.
– After axing 118 jobs at its A-branded channels, CTV has announced the elimination of 24 more at early morning show Canada AM, as well as the cancellation of First News in Montreal.
+ Iroquois, ON’s Ross Video has a 3D feather in its cap following the purchase of Netherlands-based Media Refinery, makers of XPression, a 2D and 3D character generator and motion graphics system.
– The Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund was shuttered this month. The 20-year-old fund, established to help ensure there was Canadian audiovisual content for use in schools, universities and libraries, helped create films such as The Corporation.
+ Canadian films get their due at Possible Worlds – Sydney’s Canadian Film Festival (Aug. 20-26), which is offering a week of premieres, filmmaker Q&As, workshops and parties.
