For the second year running, Canada’s Oscar contender went on to dominate the country’s film awards.

Kim Nguyen’s War Witch, which challenged in the best foreign language film category at the Academy Awards and then swept film categories at the Canadian Screen Awards, took eight trophies Sunday night at the Jutra Awards.

The Congo child soldier drama, also known as Rebelle, took the best film prize at Quebec’s film awards, along with best actress for Rachel Mwanza, best supporting actor for Serge Kanyinda, best cinematography, best editing and best sound.

That’s a repeat of 2012 when Philippe Falardeau’s Monsieur Lazhar contended at the Oscars and won six of nine Genie categories for which it was nominated.

That was followed by Monsieur Lazhar taking seven Jutra trophies after coming into last year’s competition with nine nominations.

Other Jutra winners at the 15^th edition on Sunday night included Julien Poulin winning the best actor crown for his role in Camion, while the Franco-Algerian actress Sabrina Ouazani won for best supporting actress for her star-turn in Inch’Allah.

Xavier Dolan’s Laurence Anyways won trophies for best art direction, best hair and best makeup.
