Bite TV has launched the Comedy Web Series Competition, open to comedy creators, digital content developers and producers.
The winner will receive a development deal to produce a comedy web series pilot for Bite.ca.
“Comedy lends itself very well to short form media content and the competition will create opportunities for new and established producers to have their work distributed across multiple screens,” said Blue Ant Media’s EVP programming and marketing Vanessa Case in a statement.
The competition is zeroing in on pitches that are suitable for digital distribution, including on web and mobile.
The first 100 entries received between March 1 and Apr. 15 will be narrowed to three finalists by the Bite TV programming team.
The finalists will live pitch their concepts to a panel of industry professionals, including reps from Bite TV, the National Screen Institute and Bell Media Fund, at Toronto’s Second City on May 7.
The competition will be part of a half-day symposium, supported by the Canada Media Fund, that will feature discussions about training, financing and distributing web series.
More information about the web series competition is available here.
The web series competition is the latest in Bite TV’s quest to create digital comedy. The Blue Ant Media-owned specialty channel last year partnered with Ryerson’s RTA School of Media to form the RTA School of Bite. The program, for a group of 10 participants, focuses on producing transmedia and new media comedy programming for multiple platforms.
