Fremantle acquires Singapore-based Beach House Pictures

The prodco was previously owned by Toronto-headquartered Blue Ant Media.

Global producer and distributor Fremantle has acquired a majority stake in Beach House Pictures, as the Singapore-based prodco’s former parent company, Toronto-headquartered Blue Ant Media, has sold off its stake in the company.

Founded in 2005 by producers Donovan Chan and Jocelyn Little, Beach House is behind such programming as Netflix’s Mind Your Manners, the Prime Video/Curiosity Stream science series Evolve (pictured), and such long-running franchises as MasterChef Singapore (Mediacorp), Ed Stafford: First Man Out (Discovery+, Bilibili) and Wild City with David Attenborough (Netflix, Sky, BBC America).

The prodco is currently at work on the Imax feature doc The Elephant Odyssey and Survival of the Beast for Love Nature, among other projects.

“Asia is a dynamic market and one we have targeted for strategic growth, and I am proud we have found a wonderful partner in Beach House Pictures to be part of our family,” said Jennifer Mullin, group CEO of Fremantle, in a statement.

Ganesh Rajaram, Fremantle’s CEO for LatAm and Asia, added: “We have been looking for the right partner in Asia to expand our output and footprint, and I can think of no one better than Jocelyn, Donovan and the entire team at Beach House Pictures.”

Beach House Pictures came under the Blue Ant Media umbrella in 2017 when the company acquired David Haslingden’s RACAT Group, which also included NHNZ and Australia’s Northern Pictures. The majority stake in NHNZ has since been sold to Dame Julie Christie.

“Donovan Chan, Jocelyn Little and the team at Beach House Pictures have been great colleagues and collaborators for many years now,” commented Blue Ant Media chief commercial officer Sam Sniderman. “We wish them well on their next chapter with Fremantle, which we are certain will be a great success.”
