Sue Milling named ACTRA Toronto exec director

Sue Milling has returned to ACTRA Toronto to take the executive director position.

Milling replaces Brian Topp, who has been the ACTRA Toronto’s exec director since 2001. Topp will assume a senior advisory position, with special responsibilities regarding the union’s relationship with Creative Arts Savings and Credit Union and FilmOntario, among other things, according to a statement released Thursday.

The union in December announced that Milling was leaving to return to its strategic-alliance partner the United Steelworkers at the start of January.

In the statement, Topp observed: “ACTRA Toronto is a well-respected union. Our industry is flourishing. Our public policy agenda (fundamentally about respecting artists, and seeing Canadian content on Canadian screens) is making good progress.”

ACTRA president David Sparrow added: “Brian has brought ACTRA Toronto through exponential growth, so I was sorry to see him leave. However, I am thrilled that Sue Milling has agreed to succeed him. I couldn’t feel more confident about our future.”
