Performers from the Shudder and Hollywood Suite horror anthology Slasher and Apple TV+’s animated kids series Pinecone & Pony are among the talent nominated for the 2024 ACTRA Awards in Toronto.
The nominees for the 22nd edition were revealed by ACTRA Toronto on Thursday (April 4), with the ceremony taking place on April 22 at Palais Royale.
The Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Male category includes two nominees from Slasher: Ripper (Shaftesbury): Salvatore Antonio for the episode “Everybody’s Darling” and Daniel Kash for “Left Handed Justice.”
Also competing in the category are Billy MacLellan for CBC’s Diggstown (Circle Blue Entertainment), Michael Riley for BYUtv and Family Channel’s Ruby and the Well (Shaftesbury) and Scott McCord for From (AGBO, Epix Studios, MGM International TV Productions, MGM Television, Midnight Radio).
The nominees in Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Female include Katie Douglas for Simone Stock’s film The Girl Who Escaped: The Kara Robinson Story (Julijette Inc.); Kimberly-Sue Murray for Corey Stanton’s Trader (Backlash Pictures, Pagemaster Pictures, Hero Entertainment Group); Chelsea Russell for Murry Peeters’ Woman Meets Girl (Process Entertainment, Canfro Productions, Aine Rock Productions, Mugaliyombo Media); Elizabeth Saunders for Lisa Robertson’s smokeBreak (Benchmark Pictures); and Sonja Smits for Joan Carr-Wiggin’s Better Days (Paragraph Pictures).
The Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Female Voice category includes two nominees from Pinecone & Pony (First Generation Films, in association with DreamWorks Animation): Emma Hunter for the episode “Pinecone and Horse” and Maria Nash for the episode “The Sturdy Stone.”
Other nominees in the category include Stacey DePass for BYUtv and Family Channel’s Saving Me (Sphere Animation) and Katie Griffin for Peacock’s Superbuns (Yowza Animation).
Vying for the Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Male Voice award are two nominees from CBC Kids and Sky Kids’ Mittens & Pants (Windy Isle Entertainment): Dan Chameroy for the episode “My Carrots” and Athan Giazitzidis for “Mysterious Crunch.”
Also competing are Cory Doran for Discovery Kids Latin America’s SuperWish (Nelvana, Corus, Redknot); Daniel Keith Morrison for Total Drama Island: Reboot (Fresh TV); and Nylan Parthipan for PJ Masks: Power Heroes (Frog Box, Hasbro, Disney EMEA).
CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries (Shaftesbury), Sort Of (Sphere Media), Pretty Hard Cases (Cameron Pictures) and Run the Burbs (Pier 21 Films) are up for the Members’ Choice Series Ensemble award. Also competing is Bell Fibe TV1’s Pink Is In! (Pink One Productions)
The ACTRA Toronto Stunt Ensemble Award nominees include Hardy Boys (Lambur Productions, Nelvana, Corus Entertainment); The Marsh King’s Daughter (Black Bear Pictures, Anonymous Content); Pretty Hard Cases; and Rabbit Hole (CBS Studios, Entertainment 360, Zaftig Films).
The ACTRA Toronto Stunt Award recipient this year is Tom Farr.
