Flashpoint , Less Than Kind and War Witch are amongst the nominees in the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards, announced Tuesday morning at the Rosewater Supper Club in Toronto.
The nominees are part of the inaugural awards, a new gala event combining the Genies and Geminis, and adding digital media nominees, to be broadcast as a two-hour special event on the CBC March 3.
Of the expansive nominee list, Kim Nguyen’s War Witch netted 12 nominations in various feature film categories, including best picture, director, art direction, cinematography and original screenplay, plus best supporting actor and best actress.
Xavier Dolan’s Laurence Anyways received 10 nods, while Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children netted eight.
In the doc category, Hugo Latulippe’s Alphee des Etoiles, Lisanne Pajot and James Swirsky’s Indie Game: The Movie, Brigitte Poupart’s Over My Dead Body, Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell and Nisha Pahuja’s The World Before Her all netted nominations.

In TV, Flashpoint took the most nominations, with 11, including best dramatic series, while Less Than Kind took 10 and Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays took eight in the best comedy series category.
And in the newly created international drama category, The Borgias, The Crimson Petal and the White and Titanic will compete for the CSA trophy.
Amongst the non-fiction TV nominees, CBC News: The National and the London 2012 Olympic Games netted the most noms, with six each.
