BBC America renews Cineflix Media’s Copper for second season

The end of the first season of Cineflix Media’s Copper on BBC America has been followed by the U.S. channel renewing the scripted drama for a second season.

Another 13 episodes of the period drama have been ordered to air in 2013.

Cineflix Studios, the Canadian producer’s scripted arm, made ten episodes for the first season, which debuted well on BBC America and went on to deliver 2.75 million viewers in Live+7 ratings data.

“BBC America’s first original scripted series, Copper, has proven to be a perfect fit for the channel,” BBC Worldwide America general manager Perry Simon said in a statement.

Copper is executive produced by Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana.

The cop drama is set in 1860s New York City and focuses on an an Irish immigrant cop played by Tom Weston-Jones.

BBC America’s second original scripted series, Orphan Black, is set to debut in spring 2013.
