CFC partners with Bell Media for Prime Time TV program

The Canadian Film Centre said Sunday that it has pacted with Bell Media on a three-year sponsorship of the organization’s Prime Time TV program.

Bell Media is on board as a broadcast partner for the advanced training program for episodic television writing and series development. The program, introduced in 1999, also aims to give participants an in-depth understanding of the TV marketplace.

“Simulating the story room experience, the Bell Media Prime Time TV Program offers new talent the ultimate mentorship, the chance to learn from the best in the business. The Prime Time TV program at the CFC has provided invaluable training to many of Canada’s top television writers, and has been critical in helping our industry grow and mature,” said Bell Media senior VP independent production Corrie Coe in a statement.

The 2012 program will be led by executive producer in residence Shelley Eriksen, who has written and show-run for primetime drama, comedy and mini-series, and most recently has written on Bomb Girls, Flashpoint and Continuum.

The recently greenlit Orphan Black, which will bow on Bell Media’s Space in 2013 and was created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, was developed by Manson through the Prime Time TV program.

Beginning Sept. 17, eight writers will participate in the five-month program.

The CFC-Bell Media partnership was announced at the CFC Annual BBQ Sept. 9.
