CMF disburses $6.9M to 28 digital media companies

The Canada Media Fund has distributed more than $6.9 million to 28 interactive digital media companies, as part of the latest round of its Experimental Stream development and marketing programs.

More than $4 million in development support was disbursed to 19 projects; while more than $2 million was given to nine projects receiving marketing support.

Development support

Development funding includes support for conceptualization, and creative and technical elements for eligible projects, as well as funding for business development draft proposals.

Among the projects receiving funding are CineClick Inc.’s CineClick app with $500,000, B.C.-based Slant Six Games’ downloadable game DeathCon, also with $500,000, and QuadForce, a downloadable game from Montreal-based unnamed co 9253-1524 Quebec Inc.

Elsewhere, rich interactive media apps I Created a Monster from Toronto-based Sinking Ship Interactive Inc. and Susanna Moodie: Roughing it in the Bush from Toronto-based Xenophile Media received $44,910 and $178,875 respectively. The full list of funded projects is available here.

Marketing support

Marketing support includes funding for marketing and promotion of eligible projects, including national and international marketing campaigns, design costs and market-testing of advertising.

I Learn With/Apprends Avec, a game app from Montreal-based Tribal Nova Inc., received $432,278 in marketing support for its educational game app for iPad and iPhones.

B.C.-based LinguaComm Enterprises Inc. received $305,763 for its downloadable game Supiki, that lets users practice conversation English via smartphone, while Alberta-based MoboVivo Inc. received $206,058 for Listen Up Marketing, an app that syncs content and advertising on second screens with programming on television.
