The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has allocated $11.7 million to video games and other digital media through its Commercial Projects and Prototyping programs.
CMF invested more than $3.9 million across 18 digital media projects, including immersive projects, software and video games, via their Prototyping Program, which allocates funds that are still in the experimental and testing phases on their way to a prototype.
Of the 18 projects, 11 of them were granted either exactly, or close to, the maximum amount allowable of $250,000. Selected projects include the artificial intelligence (AI) software D.Art AI Artist Assist App developed by Vancouver-based Stellar Code Lab, a division of the animation studio Stellar Creative Lab. Among the immersive experience projects Ultimate Ninja Experience (Dark Slope)
To the Stars (Maziart) and CraftII (Little Buffalo Studios), both immersive experiences, received $187,000 and $115,000 respectively. The remaining 14 titles supported by the Prototyping Program are video games.
More than $7.8 million has been granted to six video game projects through CMF’s Commercial Projects Program, which funds projects that have a greater probability of commercial success
Of the six, two received $1.5 million: Scrap Daddies (Other Ocean Interactive) and Monster Jam City (Night Market Games). Stories II (Spearhead Games) received $1.35 million and Héros du mont dragon (Studio RuniQ) received $1.25 million.
Monkey Do (Signal Space) and The Sixth (Code Blue Games) received $1.16 million and $1 million, respectively.
