Lionsgate hands out executive bonuses after Summit takeover, Hunger Games release

Being a Canadian entertainment executive can be highly lucrative.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer made $6.43 million in fiscal 2012, according to a July 30 proxy statement to the SEC coming before the indie studio’s Toronto shareholders meeting in September.

And most of that came from a $5 million bonus after Feltheimer and his executive team acquired Summit Entertainment, launched The Hunger Games as a stellar box office performer, and saw their company stock rocket by more than 100% year-over-year.

Elsewhere, Michael Burns, Lionsgate’s vice chairman, received a $4 million bonus, and former motion pictures group president Joe Drake received a $2 million bonus after he agreed to leave the company following the Summit acquisition.

Only Feltheimer saw his overall compensation drop in fiscal 2012, however, due to the timing of stock-based grants.

Feltheimer received $121,500 in stock-based compensation in fiscal 2012, compared to $4.7 million in the year-earlier period.
