Four documentary apprentice-filmmaker teams have been chosen in the latest round of the Giving Voice: Filmmakers Working With Filmmakers program.

The partnership between CBC’s documentary specialty channel and the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) supports apprentices who work with acclaimed doc filmmakers for four months.

Emerging director Nicolas Boisclair will work with established producer-director Carole Poliquin (Homo Toxicus) through Montreal-based Les productions ISCA on Poliquin’s Québécoisie documentary, which explores the role of Amerindian heritage in Quebec’s culture and identity.

Erica Leendertse will be mentored by Toronto-based Fathom Film Group’s Ann Shin (Four Seasons Mosaic, The Roswell Incident) on several doc projects, including cross-platform projects Father Figure’d Out, The Defector and Tarnation.

Father Figure’d Out, co-produced by Shin and Jeanette Loakman, is a lighter look at what it means to be a father in the 21st century.

Leendertse will be AP on The Defector, and work in the development phase for Tarnation, a series or one-off documentary.

And writer-director Shelley Tepperman will work with Montreal-based doc filmmaker Garry Beitel (Bonjour! Shalom!) on two projects through Beitel’s reframe Films.

Between Peace and War/Entre La Paix et La Guerre is a copro with the NFB that focuses on Canadian peace brokers working in international conflict zones.

The duo will also work on up to 20 short films as part of a nine-month multimedia digital installation about peace, in collaboration between Ottawa’s War Museum and the NFB.

Rounding out the latest Giving Voices field is Montreal filmmaker Thomas Szacka-Marier, who will be mentored by Montreal director and producer Yanick Létourneau on several stages of Panafrica: Unité, Progrès, Justice, produced by Périphéria Productions, including financing and story development phases.
