Deny Arcand’s next film project and two Christmas-pegged TV specials are among seven projects to receive support in the latest round of Quebecor Fund’s event and film production assistance program.
As its name suggests, the fund’s goal is backing Canadian French-language television, film and event productions, as well as related interactive and multimedia spin-offs and extensions.
Unveiled Tuesday, the disbursements total $927,000.
The projects are:
Gala Hommage 30e — A television production that ties into a live event (for which producers Just for Laughs received multiple supports) it is devised to mark the Just for Laughs festival’s 30th birthday later this year; the show will be broadcast live on Canal Indigo and then rebroadcast on illico and finally TVA.
Les Stars chantent Noël 2012 — A follow-up to a successful 2011 seasonal program, the show (by Productions Select TV) features a touring show (produced by Musicor Spectacles) of various Quebec and Ontario churches with singers performing holiday classics.
Joyeux Québec — For this TV program (by Productions Trapézia), international stars will perform along with provincial singers a Christmas concert scheduled for Dec. 1 (event producer Musicor Spectacles).
Hot dog — In this dramatic comedy film written, directed and co-produced by Marc-Andrée Lavoie with producer Esther Long, character Paul misinterprets a business partner’s plans, leading Paul to sabotage the company’s production, with ensuing chaos (produced by Orange Médias and distributed by Les Films Séville).
Deux nuits — In this film by Denys Arcand (produced by Cinémaginaire and distributed by Alliance Vivafilm) a sharp young architect, Luc, is happily married and living in bucolic La Malbaie, Qc., when a trip to a Toronto leads to an affair with a stranger.
L’Autre maison — Produced by Max Films and Distributed by TVA Films, L’Autre maison follows the tensions which emerge when two sons, war-reporter Gabriel and fighter pilot Éric, struggle to re-connect with their 86-year-old father Henri, who has Alzheimer’s. It is directed by Mathieu Roy ,who co-wrote it with Michael Ramsey.
Louis Cyr: L’homme le plus fort du monde — As the subtitle suggests, this film is about “the strongest man in the world,” the real-life Quebec-born athlete and performer who died 100 years ago. By Christal Films Productions and distributed by Les Films Christal S.E.C., it is produced by Christian Larouche, written by Sylvain Guy and directed by Daniel Roby. On screen talent include Antoine Bertrand as Cyr and Guillaume Cyr as Horace Barré.
