The Banff World Media Festival jury overlooked Canadian shows for its top prizes, as it gave the Grand Jury Prize to the HBO documentary Koran by Heart.
As the top Rockie Awards were handed out Tuesday night, Greg Barker’s documentary about kids competing in Egypt to memorize sections of Islam’s holy book also pick up the jury award for best animation and kids show.
And the best drama prize went to Five, a short film anthology for Lifetime in the U.S.
Elsewhere, the Rockie for best entertainment went to the Belgian comedy What If?, while the best documentary trophy went to To Russia With Jazz, by German producer Sarabandefilm.
