Alliance Films financing sequel for horror hit Insidious

Alliance Films is financing the sequel to Insidious, the 2011 hit spook movie from Saw director James Wan, writer Leigh Whannell and producer Jason Blum.

Alliance Films financed the original Insidious picture, which starred Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne and cost a nominal $1.5 million to make.

The highly profitable movie went on gross $155 million worldwide.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has acquired the U.S. rights to the sequel, in partnership with FilmDistrict, which will release the picture in the U.S. market.

Alliance Films will handle distribution in Canada, the UK and Spain.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions will take the remaining international territories.

The Insidious sequel will go before the cameras later this year, with a 2013 release planned.
