Pelman announces departure from Alliance Films

Brad Pelman has left Alliance Films.

His departure from his post as EVP, announced Thursday, follows Lionsgate Entertainment in June 2011 selling Maple Pictures, which Pelman and Laurie May launched in April 2005, to Alliance Films for $38.5 million.

Pelman, a former Lionsgate Films and Telefilm Canada exec, has now chosen to leave for new ventures, while maintaining ties to the market-leading indie distributor.

Laurie May, who ran Maple Pictures along with Pelman as co-presidents, will remain with Alliance Films.

“The Maple Pictures team and businesses are in capable hands,” Pelman said in a statement, as he signaled he was done helping integrate Maple Pictures into Alliance Films.

“I am grateful to the Alliance team and I am pleased to maintain a professional association with Alliance in the future,” he added.

“We wish him continued success, we are grateful for his commitment, and look forward to collaborating with him again in the future,” Alliance Films topper Victor Loewy said in his own statement.
