Here’s some breaking news: iTunes has named the CBC mobile News App as the best news app, as part of its Rewind 2011 year-end round-up.

The CBC news app for iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch faced stiff competition from popular homegrown news apps from the Globe and Mail and National Post newspapers, and CTV News.

The iTunes Rewind 2011 section on the iTunes site judges the year’s best in music, movies, TV shows, books, app  and podcasts.

The CBC News App was launched in February 2011, and offers on-the-go access to breaking and local news, weather, as well as video and audio clips.
