Score one for Bell Media.
The still-new mediaco has announced it has won the multi-platform rights to broadcast the FIFA World Cup from 2015 to 2022.
The deal sees the valuable broadcast property move from its current rights-home on the CBC to Bell, which operates CTV and TSN.
CBC broadcast the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which drew an audience of almost six million for the final game between Spain and the Netherlands. CBC will also broadcast the 2014 edition of the tournament, which takes place in Brazil.
The new Canadian FIFA rights package the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar across Bell Media platforms, including CTV, TSN, TSN.ca and TSN Mobile TV.
French language coverage will also air on RDS, RDS2, RDS.ca and RDS Mobile RV.
