Denis Villeneuve to direct Hollywood vigilante thriller for Warner Bros.

Denis Villeneuve apparently has his next film gig, in Hollywood.

The Los Angeles Times reports the Quebec director, still basking in Oscar glow from directing Incendies, is now set to helm the English language vigilante thriller Prisoners, to be produced by Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment.

Aaron Guzikowski penned the script for the movie about a working-class Boston father whose young daughter and a friend are kidnapped. Upset by how a local detective is investigating the case, the father takes hostage a man he is certain committed the crimes.

Andrew Kosove is producing Prisoners, which has been in development for two years since Guzikowski’s script showed up on Hollywood famed Black List of A-level screenplays.

No word on casting for the film, which earlier had Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale attached.

Bryan Singer and Antoine Fuqua also earlier circled the Prisoners as possible directors, before Villeneuve became attached and started building a new cast for the picture.
