Here’s a twist: marblemedia’s new series delves into the origins of the names of Canada’s notable people, places and things, but the series itself doesn’t yet have a name. Broadcaster History Television is letting the public decide its moniker as part of a contest.

Roughly 45,000 Canadians have already weighed in on what to name the series during pre-production at Namethis.ca, launched by marble’s interactive department. (The contest closes in April.)

The 13 x 30-minute series is also the first prime-time factual series for the prodco, bringing viewers into the process of naming anything from Chef Susur Lee’s new restaurant to a Women’s National Hockey League team.

Meanwhile, marble interactive is building a website to complement and extend the brand socially. Users will be able to explore the history and roots of their own names, along with activities, quizzes and games and Facebook integration.

Maggie Sutcliffe (Weird or What) is series producer, along with marblemedia executive producer/partner Matt Hornburg. It’s slated to air on History this fall.
