Temple Street is bringing Erica to America. The Toronto prodco has announced that its hit CBC drama Being Erica has been picked up for adaptation by US network ABC.
Starring Erin Karpluk, the CBC version of the show debuted in 2009 and has since gone on to sell to almost 160 countries through BBC Worldwide. The series has been nominated for 16 Geminis, winning three: best performance by an actress in a continuing lead for Karpluk in 2009; as well as best fiction cross-platform project and best sound in a dramatic series in 2010.
“We are extremely proud of the way that Being Erica is making its mark in the international television market,” said David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, co-presidents of Temple Street Productions. “Having ABC pickup the rights to make a U.S. version of the show is very exciting.”
