CMF POV deadline extended

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) POV program has extended its Dec. 6 deadline into the New Year in order to give doc makers the chance to find the broadcaster needed to access the fund’s cash. Playback Daily learned of the extension after obtaining an email sent to documentary filmmakers by Telefilm Canada.

The CMF’s $3.5 million English POV program was set up to give documentary filmmakers a helping hand. While 21 projects were approved for funding, many doc makers were having a hard time making the broadcast sale they needed to access the cash.

“The extension is great. I think all around there is support for the POV program from broadcasters, administrative bodies and filmmakers,” Loaded Pictures’ Sergio Kirby (H2Oil) told Playback Daily. Kirby is helping Montreal-based filmmaker Tamas Wormser’s find a broadcaster for his multi-platform project about Jewish music around the world, Wandering Muse, which has been earmarked by CMF for roughly $500,000 in funding.

No one from CMF was available to comment at press time. The length of the extension is unknown.
