Don Carmody’s Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D has surpassed the $280 million worldwide box office mark, making it the most successful production in Canadian feature film history, ahead of Porky’s, the Ontario Media Development Corp. reported Monday.

The record box office tally comes on news Carmody and French producer Samuel Hadida have re-teamed to shoot Michael J. Bassett’s Silent Hill: Revelation 3D in Toronto later this year.

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, a Canadian-German co-production, was produced by Constantin Film and Davis Films/Impact Pictures, ahead of a U.S. release by Sony Screen Gems, and an international roll-out by Summit Pictures. Alliance Films released the film domestically.

The film’s stereoscopic 3D work was also done in Toronto.

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D is being shopped this week at the American Film Market by Lionsgate.

News from AFM last week saw Afterlife 3D debuting in China on 1,000-plus 3D screens from Nov. 16.

Beijing-based distributor DMG and its local partner, the China Film Group, will release the fourth installment of the Capcom video game-to-movie franchise in the Chinese market.
