Corus hires Christopher Mercer as SVP of media sales and solutions

The appointment comes as SVP of advertising Barb McKergow prepares to retire from the company this fall.

Corus Entertainment has hired Christopher Mercer as SVP of media sales and solutions.

Mercer (pictured left) will assume the role on Sept. 3 ahead of the retirement of SVP of advertising Barb McKergow (right), Corus announced on Wednesday (Aug. 13).

According to a news release, Mercer brings to his new role more than 20 years of leadership experience in sales, marketing, digital transformation and brand strategy garnered from the media, telecom and tech sectors. Prior to joining Corus, he led marketing and revenue operations at Telus Health following its acquisition of LifeWorks, where he served as CMO.

Mercer has also held senior sales and marketing positions at prominent Canadian telecom and broadcasting companies, leading growth teams across various platforms including TV, radio, digital, cable and wireless. His expertise spans marketing and advertising established brands, launching new ones, and introducing digital platforms to market.

Outgoing SVP McKergow joined Corus in 2002 as a sales manager at CanWest and went on to hold various roles, including leadership positions in national and digital sales. She most recently led the company’s entire sales team, a role she assumed in 2024. She will stay on at Corus until mid-October to support the transition.

Her retirement is the latest leadership change at Corus, with Troy Reeb having stepped down as co-CEO on June 4 to pursue other opportunities after 25 years with the company. John Gossling, who joined Corus in 2016, was appointed sole CEO following Reeb’s departure, and is continuing in his role as CFO on an interim basis.
