The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) has promoted Jason Lee to managing VP, B.C. producers branch and industrial relations.
Most recently VP for B.C. industrial relations at the organization, in his new role, Lee (pictured) will add oversight of the daily operations of the CMPA-BC branch to his previous remit. Lee assumed the role on Monday (March 10), a CMPA spokesperson told Playback Daily.
Lee will also support B.C. org members with various matters such as interpreting agreements and preparations for grievances and arbitrations. In addition, Lee represents the interests of B.C.-based indie prodcos within the CMPA in matters of employment standards, health and safety and regulatory compliance.
In his previous position, Lee served as the lead negotiator in collective bargaining on behalf of the B.C. branch council.
Prior to joining the CMPA in 2017, Lee spent more than 10 years as VP, business and legal affairs at Calgary-based Seven24 Films, managing business and financial matters for series such as CBC’s Heartland, Citytv’s Young Drunk Punk and CTV Sci-Fi Channel’s Wynonna Earp. Additionally, Lee spent eight years at the company when it was known as Alberta Filmworks as manager, business affairs and producer assistant.
“Jason’s deep understanding of the province’s production landscape and the challenges producers face have made him an exceptional advocate for B.C. members,” said Reynolds Mastin, CMPA president and CEO, in a statement. “Over the past eight years, Jason’s integrity, diligence and collaborative approach to bargaining has led to the successful renewal of numerous B.C. labour agreements.”
The position of managing VP of the B.C. branch was previously held by Tracy Friesen, who died on Jan. 6 following a cancer diagnosis.
