Fella Films’ The Pond set to film in Northern Ontario

Canadian Screen Award winner Jeff Renroe is on board as writer and director.

Canadian-American writer, producer and director Jeff Renroe (Cardinal, The Colony) is set to start production on his latest feature this May in Northern Ontario.

The Pond hails from Ottawa and L.A.-based Fella Films, in association with L.A.’s Myriad Pictures. The film is written by Seattle-born, Victoria-raised Renroe (pictured) and Ben Brooks and produced by Fella Films founder Thomas Michael. Motel Pictures‘ founder Nicole Hilliard-Forde is onboard as a casting director.

Renroe won a Canadian Screen Award for in Best Direction, Drama Program or Limited Series in 2019 for the CTV series Cardinal.

Production will shoot for four weeks in May, although it is still scouting locations in Northern Ontario, Michael told Playback Daily.

The film follows a group of life-long friends who travel to a remote lake house to celebrate their terminally ill friend, only to discover she has become a vessel for parasites that threaten to infect the entire group. It stars Isabelle Fuhrman and Toronto-born Douglas Smith.

Myriad is handling worldwide sales for the film.

Funding for The Pond is provided by Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, with minimum guarantees from Photon Films and Myriad Pictures as well as federal and provincial tax credits.
