WildBrain lines up its team for Finding Her Edge

EXCLUSIVE: The Family Channel and Netflix series has kicked off production in Ontario with Shamim Sarif and Jacqueline Pepall on board as directors.

Toronto-based WildBrain is taking to the ice in Barrie and Orillia, Ont. with the production team and cast firmed up for its upcoming live-action teen drama series Finding Her Edge.

Principal photography for the series, first announced in January, began on Feb. 11 and runs until May, a WildBrain spokesperson told Playback Daily. Finding Her Edge was commissioned by Family Channel for broadcast in Canada, with Netflix streaming to the rest of the world. The streamer will carry it in Canada at a later date via a seccond-run window. A premiere date is yet to be announced.

Executive produced by showrunner Jeff Norton, the 8 x 44-minute series is based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s novel of the same name, and inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion. It follows a trio of sisters who are heirs to a figure skating dynasty.

Shamim Sarif (You) and Jacqueline Pepall (Horrible Histories) are serving as the series’ directors. Shelley Scarrow (Wynnona Earp) is on board as head writer, alongside Sabrina Sherif (Wild Cards), Norton and Pepall.

Other executive producers are WildBrain’s Josh Scherba, Stephanie Betts and Angela Boudreault.

The series stars Madelyn Keys (A Mother’s Life), Harmon Walsh (Gossip Girl), Alexandra Beaton (Overcompensating), Cale Ambrozic (Hotel Cocaine) Olly Atkins (Percy Jackson and The Olympians), Meredith Forlenza (Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent), Alice Malakhov (Anne With an E), Niko Ceci (I Woke Up a Vampire) and Millie Davis (The Umbrella Academy).
