Family Channel, Netflix partner with WildBrain on teen drama

Jeff Norton, who was most recently behind Netflix's Geek Girl, will serve as showrunner for Finding Her Edge.

Family Channel and Netflix have partnered on Finding Her Edge, a live-action teen drama produced by Toronto-based WildBrain.

The series is based on Jennifer Iacopelli’s novel of the same name, and inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion. It was commissioned by Family Channel for broadcast in Canada, with Netflix streaming to the rest of the world.

Jeff Norton (pictured) will serve as showrunner of the 8 x 44-minute series, which follows a trio of sisters who are heirs to a figure skating dynasty. Norton was an executive producer on the YTV and Netflix series Geek Girl in 2024.

Finding Her Edge will begin shooting in February and will premiere later this year on Family Channel in Canada. It will then come to Netflix in Canada via a second-run deal.

In a statement, Norton said the novel is “a story that celebrates the pursuit of excellence while exploring the highs and lows of Austen-inspired romance.”

Last December, WildBrain announced an agreement to sell two-thirds of its television broadcast business to Halifax-based independent children’s studio Island of Misfits Media Ventures, which includes Family Channel. The sale is expected to close later this year.
