The latest in a slew of Canadian TV shows bound for MIPCOM: two feature length documentaries by and about William Shatner.

Canadian-born Shatner will see the TV rights for two of his locally-made documentaries shopped in Cannes by the Remarkable Content Group.

The New York Based distribution outfit led by Andrea Eisen and Beth Fraikorn will market The Captains, a feature-length Canadian pay TV documentary that captures Shatner’s career arc to overnight success as Captain James T. Kirk, and William Shatner’s Gonzo Ballet.

Gonzo, in which Shatner stars and produces, chronicles his collaboration in a Milwaukee Ballet production by Margo Sappington, entitled Common People.

Canadian pay TV channel Movie Central is partnering with Shatner’s production shingle Melis Productions and Ballinran Productions on The Captains, to be directed by Shatner and executive produced by David Zappone and Craig Thompson.

Movie Central also acquired the Canadian broadcast rights to Gonzo Ballet, which is produced by Special Entertainment, Big Screen Entertainment and Melis Productions.

“Having the opportunity to represent these works by William Shatner – a global, instantly recognizable figure in the entertainment landscape – is a true privilege,” Andrea Eisen said in a statement.

The twin Canadian docs from Shatner is part of a trend of Canadian comics that found success in Hollywood returning home to make shows for international consumption.

Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel is shooting the prankster reality series Howie Do It for co-producers NBC and Canwest Global Communications Corp., and is talking to CTV and Canwest Global about making more shows in Canada.

And Colin Mochrie, best known for his star turns in the U.S. improvisational comedy Whose Line Is It Anyway? and The Drew Carey Show, in recent years has found steady Canadian TV work on series like She’s The Mayor and The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes To Town.
