Hot Sheet: Demand for Severance leaps after season two debut

Squid Game remained the top series despite another large drop in demand.

Apple TV+’s Severance (pictured) jumped to the No. 2 spot for digital originals in mid-January following its season two premiere on Jan. 17.

The dark comedy was 38.5 times more in demand than the average TV show in Canada from Jan. 13 to 19, according to Parrot Analytics. Severance follows a group of workers who have had the memories of their work and personal lives surgically divided.

Netflix’s Squid Game remained at the top with a demand average of 90.3, despite another large drop in demand from the previous week. The dystopian thriller’s second season released on Dec. 26, 2024. Paramount+’s Landman fell one spot to No. 3, despite a slight increase in demand following its season finale on Jan. 12.

Netflix’s American Primeval made its debut on the digital originals chart at No. 4. The series, which stars Kelowna, B.C.-born Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), follows the 1857 Utah War, where Mormon settlers clashed with the U.S. government. American Primeval debuted on Jan. 9.

Apple TV+’s Silo re-entered the chart at the No. 9 spot following its season two finale on Jan. 17.

On the overall originals chart, NBC’s Saturday Night Live fell behind Squid Game with a demand average of 55.2. The sketch comedy show’s 50th season returned from its holiday break on Jan. 18. The Daily Show landed in the No. 3 spot with a demand average of 53.7. The news-comedy series featured a Jon Stewart interview with Mark Carney, a candidate for the Liberal Party leadership, for its Jan. 13 edition.
