Treasure hunting series Red River Gold renewed for second season

The APTN-commissioned series follows a group of Métis treasure seekers as they search for lost British gold coins.

The 3 Story Pictures documentary series Red River Gold will continue the hunt for lost treasure, thanks to a second season renewal from APTN.

Production on the 13 x 30-minute second season began on Sept. 10 and will run until the end of October. It is directed by Saxon de Cocq (Treaty Road), Berkley Brady (Dark Nature), Sam Karney (Nation Untamed) and Lisa Unrau (Staying Wild).

De Cocq is the writer for season two.  Hannah Hermanson and Ell McEachern (Treaty Road) from 3 Story Pictures and Karney from Ice River Films are producing. The series is executive produced by Doug Cuthand (Big Bear).

Red River Gold follows a group of Métis treasure seekers as they search for a trove of British gold coins that were lost in 1870, meant to fund a military force marching across Canada to stop the Red River Resistance led by Louis Riel.

The second season is filmed in rural Manitoba, including locations such as Ste. Anne, Richer, Falcon Lake and Northwest Angle.

Red River Gold was commissioned by APTN and produced with additional support from the Canada Media Fund and Creative Saskatchewan. It will air in English on APTN, in Michif on APTN Languages and stream in both languages on APTN lumi. The release details will be provided at a later date.
